Everything CBum (Chris Bumstead)

What is up Gym n Japan. We have a very special and exciting blog this week. I (Jake) am especially excited about this one too. We are going to be talking about our dad, the GOAT, the man, Chris Bumstead - or as we all know him CBum.

First let’s give you a quick rundown of CBum (our idol).

Chris Bumstead was born on February 2 1995 (only a few years older than both of us) and born in Ottawa, Ontario Canada - so Jake can almost feel his presence at the moment… He is 185cm or 6 foot 1 if you don’t use the metric system #usemetricplz. Interestingly enough he weighs over 100kgs at comp weight which is a lot more than both of us at any time of the year.. and Jake (who is pretty big) weighs 80-85kg - probably at a comparable height. Now if you think 100kg is heavy, he blows out to around 120kg in the off season. I use the word blow out for effect but he is actually bulking and ready for the next year; energy availability for muscle repair etc.

Recently he won his 4th (IN A FOOKING ROW) title as Classic Physique Mr. Olympia Champion. Not forgetting that since the classic physique came in he has just dominated. Out of the 7 titles available he has won 4 times! And runner up twice. These 4 titles are hard earned on his part because he has had so many adversities and yet still managed to win. In his YouTube he discusses in depth some of these and in 2022 he was battling a bicep tear which would probably end or ruin a comp but nooope he powered through and got the dub!! The bicep tear was something that occurred randomly towards the end of the prep, where he actually didn’t know he had done it until after the show was completed. Backstage he did fight with his own mental state but also, through his experience and backing his own hard work, was able to get on stage confidently and get through the prejudging and the night show to get the win.

We highly recommend watching his latest Q&A episode on YouTube where he answers all of his pre olympia questions. From what he eats, cardio, mindset and how he has developed over the many years of competing.

To say we are excited is an understatement. The guy is a living specimen, a true work of art in the bodybuilding world. If you read our blogs regularly I am sure you know who he is and you probably follow him on Instagram too.

Youtube

As you might be aware CBum is quite famous on YouTube and probably makes a lot of his money through that considering the prize money for the class mr Olympia title is $50,000… but will go up. On YouTube he has a whopping 2.85 million subscribers and a lot more that watch his videos without subscribing (Haydon)…

His most popular videos are those that he does in the lead up to Olympia “day in the life” type videos and his famous behind the scenes for Olympia is always a hit with him talking to his mates, psyching himself up, what he’s eating throughout etc. we love these because you can see all the emotion he’s feeling and the minor things that we wouldn’t know is a massive thing when competing at such a high level.

Personally my favourite videos are either the training ones, the ones leading up to the olympia, BUT my all time favourite are the long ones. One in particular was his most recent one post olympia. Calvin (the videographer) did an incredible job of making the entire 1 hour masterpiece so enjoyable to watch. It was something I (Jake) actually watched twice.

His merch

Well I’m sure you already know about his merch, especially if you read our blogs because we both spent hundreds trying to get some of his shirt releases. We get unlucky each time because they sell out so god damn quick as well as they usually release at 2am in Australia. These release a pretty random thought or when they are ready? We know that he likes to release a Mr Olympia one within a few months of winning so we will let you know when!! A tip when ordering these - go slightly larger than you would normally go because I (Haydon) thought a medium would fit but some are a little small. ALWAYS go bigger, who doesn’t love a good oversized shirt.

Here are a few pics of us in the shirts:

Now it’s not just his T-shirts that we get hyped about, it's the raw nutrition deal he has. Well it’s hard to call it a deal as such because he basically owns half of it… can the man get any cooler? This deal is massive for him because a) he gets free supps b) he gets to have his own branded supps a win win in our book. He actually is co-owned with Get RAW Nutrition, which honestly produces some of the best tasting and quality products on the market. Use code ASCEND in the shop if you do pick anything up ;)

Podcast

Well you know how we talked about CBum owning part of raw nutrition well he has a podcast with them too! The GetRAWNutrtion Podcast is also on YouTube or any podcast platform. They are honestly great to listen to and to just get more updates on Chris’s work and training life, which is always cool to see what a professional and well established bodybuilder gets up to when he isn’t training for 2-3 hours in the gym.

If you couldn’t tell, we (mostly Jake) are massive fan boys of CBum and he can have our kids :’). But seriously, the guy works super hard both in the gym, within his own mental space, his relationships and business endeavors. Whatever he puts his mind to he accomplishes and he has built such a strong team around him. This is what you should all strive to be doing in life.

As always, thank you for reading to the end. We really do appreciate any and all of the support from everyone who reads our blog. We put a lot of time and effort into it so it is appreciated.

If you could go and share it on social media or even just tell your friends about it, the more we can spread our humour and love for Gym and Japan, the better the world would be.

Until next week

If you guys have any questions, want us to do reviews etc. feel free to send us a message and we will do our best :P

And once again thank you for your support!
