WHAT IS UP GYM N JAPAN FAM! This week we have a highly anticipated blog for you all! We knew it was coming, ever since the announcement and finally the release of the Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Prequel Movie. Both myself and Haydon have watched the movie and below are our thoughts on it. We hope you enjoy it and if you haven’t seen the movie yet, we hope this makes you want to go watch it and then watch the series as well. ALSO there may be some spoilers ahead but we will try not to ruin everything…
So first off the characters and animation of this movie were as you would expect from Studio MAPPA…absolutely incredible. The new main character this movie was based around - Yuta Okkotsu, had really a good depth of character development and of course an OP ability to go with it. The other characters are the guys from the series who are slightly younger because this is based just before the main series and showed where they came from when comparing them to the main series. Once again the show was super graphic with alot of death/gore but it adds to the show and feel real with the consequences of their actions etc. MAPPA = Bae.
Now, for our dreamy best boy, Gojo Satoru! *girls screaming*. Or daddy Gojo as we like to call him.. He was a pretty big part of this movie because he is just a weirdo by bringing in someone who has a power strong enough to kill many people and no control. At least we know he doesn't change much before the main series and brings in itadori. He doesn’t get to show his sick powers as much as the main series but was still a badass by showing his influence over all the superiors and their reliance on him. We kinda knew from the main series that Gojo has some obvious connections with the bad guys but this story shows a lot more of this and how it's all connected with their motives etc which are helpful to know for the main series.
NEXT: one great bit about a prequel is that it is perfect for newbies because there isn’t any pre-existing knowledge needed to watch it. Fun fact: the manga for this movie was actually written before the main series because Gege Akutami wrote it as a short series but due to popularity it was serialized as a manga. Obviously watching the main series will help you to have a greater understanding of the whole JJK world and how cool Gojo actually is! But there is no real need to watch the main series before this movie. I think that the story of this movie was very well rounded with a beginning, middle and an end so perfect for the movie format then a good follow on to the main series. It focuses on each of the characters just enough to make them known but not too much that it was irrelevant which was good.
ANd finally we can't forget the centerpiece of the show, Yuta Okkotsu! He is a lil pussy at the start of the show, hates his own existence because he can't control his powers and ends up killing/hurting people. He develops this power with the help of his friends and mentor Daddy Gojo to be able to use this power for good. You could see with the bags under his eyes that he was over it all and felt like his existence was meaningless. By figuring out why he has this curse put on him he learnt how to use it to his advantage. Within this he also finds out some big things about his family heritage and will hopefully see him in the main series at some point!
Haydon: Well I read the manga on the same day I went to the movies to watch this and they absolutely nailed the story and some great additional scenes so that it gave a better all round picture. I am pretty biased when it comes to anime and always prefer it because it is colorful and I don't have to use my terrible imagination!
Unreal movie and ties into the show really well, probably didn’t WOW us like some of the other shows that we have watched but still great tho!
As always, thank you so much for tuning in! It really does mean a lot to us
