Life update - Jake and Haydon - February 2023
Hey Gym N Japan fam!
It has been a while since we brought you a gym/ life update so here we go! With both of us living on opposite sides of the world, we thought it would be a good opportunity to update everyone on how 2023 is going for the both of us so far and what is happening in our lives.

Jake
Haydon has some exciting news, where he has actually stuck it out unlike most new years resolutioners, and actually been consistently going to the gym. With a small scare of being 80kg, he has been grinding away on grinder…I mean in the gym, and let me tell you, he is looking pretty sexy now (mmmmm).
More on the acute side of things, Jake (myself writing this now) recently had a few head knocks on the 17th of Feb (18th for those in Australia), resulting in a mild concussion. After being sent home from the patrol clinic and work, I decided to smash out the blog and get it done before Haydon posts it tonight for me. I haven’t had a concussion since I was about 15 playing football, but it’s not nice and honestly, to cut the jokes for a second, are quite dangerous and should be taken seriously.

Anyway, moving on from all of that, I have, as most know by now, been living in Canada for almost 4.5 months now, snowboarding every chance I get, doing stupid shit, sending it off jumps, rails and cliffs and taking a large number of falls. I hurt my hip 4 weeks ago which is finally better (even though we just pushed through the pain and kept riding), have an ongoing shoulder problem from the repeated falls (again just power through that shit) and have been getting a lot better on the snow board.

I will also be competing, hopefully, in something called BoarderCross. Search it on YouTube, it’s pretty fkn cool. But I need to practise a lot more before it. It is happening on the 17-18th of March. I will hopefully have some footage of it recorded to post on my social media and maybe into the blog of that week for everyone to see. Basically it’s like motorX except on a snowboard, with jumps, burns, bumps, pond skims and XL jumps with a trick involved to qualify. The winner receives $3K, then $1K, $600 and $400 respectively. The goal is to win but also I know there will be pros competing LOL.

Other than that, I just work 4-5 days a week for peanuts (literally earn like $750 a fortnight - 78 hrs)...pretty depressing to think about. I’m not here for the money though. Then I am also spending time with all the amazing people I have met here, learning how to be an adult sort of and snowboarding whenever I have the chance. Honestly it is an incredible experience and I am so tempted to stay here for summer (going home for my mum's 50th) and then doing a second winter here. If you have the chance to do it, I 110% recommend it to anyone and everyone.
Gym is going quite well. Even with all the injuries, I have been able to maintain strength, build some decent muscle and have also become quite lean. The goal for the year is to possibly compete in October/November and also while in Canada, go and see the next Mr. Olympia LIVE!!!! How wild would that be? The plan is to also record some more footage through summer, post more on socials and YouTube and get the Podcast back up and running. I also want to try to make it to the Revive Gym where CBum trains and try to catch him on a day where he is training so I can at least get a photo with him.

Haydon
What is going on!!! Well a quick life update from me, mine is nowhere near as exciting as Jake’s… I am just doing my thing and working Monday to Friday which is quite good.
GYM - I have been constantly going to the gym since the new year. Me and Kylie decided it was time to actually commit to the gym at least 5 times a week which we have done since the new year. As Jake said earlier, I did have a little scare with a weight of about 80kg while I was in Bali… (Pic below). Since then I have dropped a few kgs which is nice and ready to tackle the year by being stronger and fitter.

On friday I did a body composition scan and it was a complete coincidence that it lined up with this life update post. After my scare in Bali I have successfully lost a few kgs and now sitting at 75.7kg which isn't too bad considering I was in alot worse shape… Since the last body scan I did in August 2022 I have put on a bit of fat and lost a bit of muscle. Room for improvement for sure! My weight will naturally come down over the next 3-4 months with a goal of running in the Darwin City to Surf (12.7km) in June this year. My goals in the gym will be to gain some muscle and strength that will assist the running!

We (me, my dad and brother) have recently entered the NT Barra Classic which will be happening in April/May this year! The comp is 5 full days of fishing and just having a good time! We are super pumped for this and even got some matching shirts designed which will be here in about 8 weeks.
See the sick design below:

Other than that just eating at lots of nice restaurants and probably overindulging in alcohol… I have plenty of pics of garlic bread from around Darwin which I might bring out and rate one day? Because we all love garlic bread heheh
Here's a pic of one of the most average cheesy garlic breads we have had:

Definitely not as exciting as Jake lol.. I wanna meet CBUMM merp.
If Jake meets CBUM he has to dedicate another post to him with how he smelt, how big he looks in real life etc..
As always, thank you for reading to the end. We really do appreciate any and all of the support from everyone who reads our blog. We put a lot of time and effort into it so it is appreciated.
If you could go and share it on social media or even just tell your friends about it, the more we can spread our humor and love for Gym and Japan, the better the world would be.
