Setting your goals for 2022! What are some of our goals for the year
What is up Gym N Japan Fam! As we start the New Year off another blog…I mean to be honest it doesn’t get much better than that. It is important for us to set ourselves up for success and make the most out of 2022. It’s time to push out of our comfort zones and better ourselves this year and not waste a single moment.
Alright I (Haydon) will take the blame for the absolutely terrible start to the Gym N Japan blog calendar for the year! However when this post goes live it’ll be a Monday so if you haven’t started on your New Year's resolution, now is the time! “Alright I’ll start Monday” is the number one phrase to get out of doing something that seems difficult or too hard. Goals or New Year's resolutions should be a little daunting and even scary but you can do it! Follow this for the ultimate success!

How do we set goals? What’s the plan for the year?
First, you should probably think of any big goals you have which may take 4-5 years to achieve. Then how far into achieving that goal are you, so that you can determine what this year looks like for you. Or maybe you don’t have something big like that, maybe you want to better yourself in your career or start a new job. Whatever it is, determine a long term goal for the next 12 months.
12 months is quite a long time especially when goal setting so we highly recommend setting small steps to achieving the ultimate goal for the year. You could do this by setting a monthly goal, quarterly goal etc. Let’s just assume you want to gain 10kg cause you are a skinny guy wanting to bulk *cough* Haydon *cough*, you will only need to gain 0.83kg per month, easy right!? And if you keep looking every month you’ll find out if you need to adjust for the next month. You can apply this to saving money, weight gain or loss, watching anime etc etc.
Don't be scared to set multiple goals, but make sure you can achieve them. This year is going to be the year you step out of your comfort zone and take action. Think about it, the first time you ever do something new it is difficult. So, when life or a task you are doing to achieve your goals is difficult and you feel like giving up, just remember that is a good thing, it means you are challenging yourself and moving in the right direction. Without change or discomfort, we are just going to be stuck where we were yesterday or in 2021...and that's not what we are doing.
Another small thing to do, which we have all heard of is setting SMART goals!
S - Specific (be specific and narrow down exactly what you are achieving and how you'll get there)
M - Measurable (ensure you can measure you progress and success)
A - Attainable (don't be silly, aim for the stars but don't do that unless you have a rocket ship)
R - Realistic (e.g. don't plan a trip to Japan in 2 weeks if boarders aren't open...)
T - Time Frame (set a realist time frame to achieve the main goal and the smaller goals/steps in between to achieve that goal)
Jake's Goals
2022 for me is going to be a massive year! I have a lot of goals I also want to achieve. Like Haydon, COVID really threw a spanner in the works in terms of travel, work and a few other things, but hopefully this year will be different. If any of my goals relate to any of you reading this, feel free to contact us or leave a comment in the section below and we can have a DnM about how we will achieve this together, after all we are all a family at Gym N Japan.
So my first and biggest goal of the year is to start and complete building my first home with my partner. This has been something we have both wanted to do for ages…we chose the house and land back in July 2021 and finally get to start everything in February this year!!

Second, I want to really dial in my diet and training. I am going to focus more on my diet than the exercise component, but when I am in the gym, focusing on going hard and intense for that short 1-1.5 hours while I am training, no more rocking up and going through the motions. Then once I hit around 90kg I want to cut right back to being around 5% body fat and possibly compete in a bodybuilding competition.
Next on my list is I want to also go travelling like Haydon, as long as COVID doesn’t fck things up for us! If we can’t go overseas then I am 100% going to go snow skiing in Melbourne with a group of people for a week or so. I haven’t skied in around 5 years and honestly it is the one thing I want to do more than anything else right now, missing it a lot!

A few other small things I want to do is:
Read more books
Read more manga
Stay consistent with my YouTube videos
Continue to grow the blog as much as possible this year
Start investing in shares
Haydon's Goals
I have quite a few things I want to achieve because these last few years with COVID have changed everything I've wanted over the last few years. I have wanted so many things but have been met with disappointment quite a few times.. Here's to 2022, my goals and yours too obviously! Hopefully I can achieve a few of them! I am not setting any of those no eating junk food, no drinking, no gambling goals because I know I’ll break it within a month plus I think that they should all just be enjoyed in some kind of moderation YOLO.
Alright this one is the number 1 on the list and if it doesn’t happen something will be seriously wrong hahah! That goal is to BUY A HOUSE! Anyone who knows me, knows that I have wanted to buy a house for a very long time right after my backpacking plans went up in smoke thanks to COVID. Next thing is to travel a little bit more with 2 trips in mind. One of them needs to be overseas… praying; plz COVID gods, let us travellllll!!!!!!!! And the next will be to Melbourne for a snow trip and catch up with everyone down there I haven’t seen in years (if you are reading this from Melbourne and want to catch up HMU, you know where to find me ;))

ALRIGHT this wouldn’t be a Gym N Japan post without a gym goal and that is to make it to 80kg by the end of the year with a decent amount of muscle gained too. I’ve always struggled to gain weight because I either forget to eat or just can’t be bothered eating all the time. I know that this will be difficult at the start but will probably get on a roll once I really set my mind to it! It's definitely got to start with me actually meal prepping and cooking myself… ewww but has to be done. I think if I’m consistent with the gym and my eating, this next goal should come pretty easily which is to hit 100kg on the bench press whether it’s 1 rep or 10. I'll be happy. I’m currently at 75kg for 4 reps! Not really a 1 rep max guy tbh… sneaky last gym one, I’d also like to get my knee injury under control so I can absolutely destroy my legs again, I miss not being able to walk after a good session...
CAN WE GET A PRAYER IN THE COMMENTS FOR HAYDON'S KNEE

And last one from me I promise. This one is to read a little bit more just like you are now ahaha. I want to read more into business and shares which are probably books you all find incredibly boring.. but there you have my goals for 2022… Bing bong!
Finally for the both of us our goal is to remain consistent with the blogging as well as trying to grow it into what we dream it to be: where we get filthy rich and can just create content for all of our loyal followers as a full time job ;) we dunno where this journey will take us but we hope that at least a few people enjoy what we write :P
