What are the best places to watch anime?

Hey Gym N Japan Fam! Want to start watching anime but don’t know where to begin? Similar to our post about starting in the gym we are going to give you a quick run down on where you can watch ANIME! I mean there’s no real reason you wouldn’t want to watch anime so we will get straight to it.

Here’s a quick cheat sheet/list of where you can start your anime journey!

  1. Animelab/ Funimation

  2. Crunchyroll

  3. Netflix

  4. Prime Video

In this list we will be looking at the needed places to legally watch anime, because obviously we only watch it legally and never on the internet… This isn’t an extensive list of places to watch anime, but they are probably the most common and mainstream sites. We are going to break each of them down for you guys so you know which is the best one to choose if you’re too broke to just get them all. Otherwise do what we do and one of your mates gets one of them and then you get the other and you can just share the accounts with each other. Between the two of us we can probably have every single streaming service available in Australia… maybe it’s a sign that we have too much money or watch too much anime… HAHA!

Netflix

This is probably going to be everyone’s starting point when it comes to anime. Whether you have your ex’s password or your parents account we all have access to this so there’s no better place to start. A few major anime you can find on here are Demon Slayer, Death Note, Haikyu, Seven Deadly sins and many many more! Also has a good collection of old studio Ghibli classics if you are into those.

Anime lab/ Funimation

This is a great starting point if you want to start getting into anime and want a large selection of dubbed anime. When we first started watching anime, anime lab was our go to because it was in English but have slowly transitioned into more Crunchyroll based shows that are subbed. Although, we hate that funimation ruined the layout and ease of use for the OG AnimeLab. But if you never used that before and only now start using it, you will love it so much! Still a super clean design.

Crunchyroll

This site has a massive, and we mean massive, selection of anime. Live in Germany? The show you want probably has the German Dub...it is crazy! Unlike Netflix and AnimeLab/Funimation, the layout is not as clean. Yes it runs smooth, but things like being able to click a single button to skip the intro or ending, next episode or find shows easily is not as good. But there’s nothing difficult about going out of fullscreen and then clicking next episode, so it doesn’t really matter. The BEST thing about CrunchyRoll is that shows, when aired, are immediately put up on time. Sometimes the other platforms can be quite delayed.

Prime Video

We wouldn’t recommend this as the go to place to watch anime because there isn't a lot on there. However if you have the subscription why not use it? It has Vinland Saga, Pokemon, Dororo, Psycho Pass and Grand Blue just to name a few! It also has a few decent movies on there which comes at an additional rental cost which is stupid if you ask me.. The price to rent is around $6.99 per movie and considering you are already paying its pretty crap.. Bloody Jeffrey, Jeffrey Bezos.

Now that you know where to go and watch your anime, open up your laptop, turn on your PC or get out the iPad and start watching my friends! The world of anime awaits you.
